As the manager of public programming at the MSU Museum CoLab Studio, I bring people together to address pressing global issues in art+STEM+culture programs. The upcoming CoLab Studio exhibition at the MSU Museum, "Food Fight!" (January-July 2024), looks at food security, production, and sustainability, and the complex cultural relationships humans have with food. Formerly, as an astronomer and astrophysicist, I researched black holes and neutron stars in X-ray binaries to look for signatures of general relativity. The observations I used came from from X-ray telescopes like NICER and NuSTAR, and my typical statistics and data analysis algorithms included smoothing and de-noising, Fourier techniques, rms and covariance, fitting models to spectra, and Python software development. I also do public outreach and science consulting/advising on creative projects. I've been an invited panelist at Adler After Dark in Chicago and the Women in Physics Canada in Montreal; presented art+science collaborations at the MSU Broad Museum Art Lab, REO Town Reading Series, and Amsterdam Science-Art Slam; led activities at science day events in upstate New York, Edmonton, Amsterdam, and Michigan; given classroom talks in person and virtually; and given popular science presentations for Nerd Nite Edmonton, LogiCON Edmonton, Nerd Nite Amsterdam, MSU Science Festival, the Abrams Planetarium, Astronomy on Tap Lansing, and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Calgary.
