Dr. Jerry Kolins first joined Palomar Health in 1977 as a surgical pathologist after completing his residencies in anatomic pathology and neuropathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and in clinical pathology at the National Institutes of Health. He is Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Immunohematology/Blood Banking. In 1991 Dr. Kolins assumed the role of Medical Director of Laboratories at Palomar Health. In 1998 he served as Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer of the American Red Cross Blood Services, San Diego Division. In 2004 Palomar Health appointed Dr. Kolins Associate Chief Medical Quality Officer and subsequently Chief Patient Safety Officer, Chief Medical Quality Officer and on December 1, 2014, Vice President, Patient Experience. Dr. Kolins was Chief of Staff at Palomar Medical Center from 1994-1996. He earned a Masters Degree in Organization Management (MOM) in 1995 and was certified by the American Board of Medical Management in 1996. He was inducted into the American College of Healthcare Executives as a Fellow (FACHE) and in 2012 was honored as a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). In 2014 Dr. Kolins was recognized as a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) by the American Association of Physician Leadership. Jerry is proud to support The Elizabeth Hospice and served on its Board of Directors from 1996-2006 and as Chairman of the Board in 2006. As Vice President of Patient Experience, Dr. Kolins will oversee the quality efforts at Palomar Health including Infection Prevention and Control, Physician Quality, Risk Management and Patient Satisfaction. His research interests include the role of emotional intelligence in the patient experience and the link between the patient experience and the quality of care provided to patients.
