Moderna is pioneering messenger RNA Therapeutics, an entirely new in vivo drug modality that produces human proteins or antibodies inside patient cells, which are in turn active intracellularly or secreted. This breakthrough platform addresses currently undruggable targets and offers a superior alternative to existing drug modalities for a wide range of disease conditions. Moderna has developed a broad intellectual property estate, including more than 250 patent applications with more than 12,000 claims ranging from novel nucleotide chemistries to specific drug compositions. The company plans to develop and commercialize its innovative mRNA drugsinitially for rare diseases and oncologywhile partnering drug candidates in other therapeutic areas in order to rapidly deliver this innovation to patients. Moderna is a privately held company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As the head of corporate communications for Biogen, I lead external communications, media relations, executive and financial communications, our corporate social and digital channels including biogen.com, and corporate branding. In this role, I work across the company and with our senior leadership to develop corporate positioning -- and with our internal communications, government affairs and brand teams on overall communications strategy, programs, sponsorships, and CSR initiatives. Before joining Biogen, I spent more than six years as general manager of the Boston office of FleishmanHillard, where I headed day-to-day operations, managed a 25 person staff and had overall P&L responsibility. I also spent nearly three years in Fleishman's Austin office. Prior to FleishmanHillard I spent several years running communications for Microsoft’s US Public Sector business, which at the time was the company’s largest industry vertical. I have held a number of senior roles at other leading large agencies including Weber Shandwick, as well as smaller public affairs firms. I also spent time in Baltimore and Washington DC working for several print and broadcast news outlets.
