Andrew D Badley MD is a professor and the Chair of the department of Molecular Medicine at Mayo Clinic. This Department is the home of cell- based and virus-based novel therapeutics, including CAR-T and oncolytic virotherapy, as well as gene replacement therapies at Mayo Clinic, and has members in MN, AZ and FL. Dr Badley has spent almost 30 years at Mayo clinic as a physician in the Division of Infectious diseases, and as a scientist running a lab devoted to virus host interactions, and understanding the how the immune system fails to completely clear certain infections, such as HIV. Dr Badley has published >180 peer reviewed manuscripts and has received numerous awards for his research and teaching. Dr Badley has led IND submissions and conducted novel early phase clinical trials based on his research, to advance understanding of novel host based immune augmentation strategies. Over the past 2+ years Dr Badley has also been the chair of the Mayo Clinic COVID task force, which oversees and coordinates all clinical and research activities related to SARS-CoV2 and COVID disease including basic virology, biobanking, translational research, selection and execution of clinical trial, health disparities research and Long COVID. As an experienced executive leader, Dr Badley has a long history of creating and fostering strategic partnerships between pharma, industry, and academic groups towards the shared goal of advancing science and treatments for unmet medical need. In these partnerships Dr Badley has served various roles on the academic side (Past Associate Dean of Research, Director of Drug discovery, and Founding Director Office of Translation to Practice) and the corporate side (CMO, CSO, Board member, SAB member) for initiatives that span drug discovery, Artificial intelligence, novel biomarkers and diagnostics, to biologic therapeutic development. Dr Badley holds multiple patents and regularly advises biopharma / industry on subjects of immunology, virology, immunotherapy, cell and gene therapy, and clinical trial strategy.
