Dr. Sean Peisert is jointly appointed as a staff scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, chief cybersecurity strategist at CENIC, and as an associate adjunct professor and faculty member in the Graduate Groups in Computer Science, Forensic Science, and Health Informatics at the University of California, Davis. At Berkeley Lab and UC Davis, he leads research and development projects relating to a broad cross section of computer and network security, including intrusion detection, computer forensic analysis, software assurance, vulnerability analysis, the insider threat, and cyber-physical systems. He is also interested in the application of computer security to health informatics, the smart/power grid, scientific computing integrity, and elections and electronic voting. Several recent R&D projects he has led include developing a "physics-aware" intrusion detection for control systems in power grids by synthesizing SCADA and power sensor data; and developing intrusion detection techniques for enhancing security in open, high-performance scientific computing and networking environments. He is the vice chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Security & Privacy; an editorial board member of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine; a steering committee member and past general chair of the New Security Paradigms Workshop (NSPW); steering committee member and past program co-chair of the Workshop on Cyber Security Experimentation and Test (CSET); and past general chair for the 2015 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, the flagship conference for security research. Dr. Peisert received his Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
