Following a not-so-great experience with a creepy ice cream truck, Tony Lamb began to imagine the possibilities within the mobile ice cream industry. What if the truck was clean? What if the driver was friendly and presentable? What if the product was actually really good? What if they cared about the community they served? As the months went by, Tony kept thinking about that sad little ice cream truck; he knew he could build a better truck and along with that, shape a much better experience for customers. In 2007, he launched Kona Ice, focusing on delicious shaved ice that attracted kids and adults alike with its colorful and eye-catching truck; a really fun atmosphere that included the steel drum music of the islands; and by developing flavors that kept Kona Ice devotees coming back for more. Giving back to the communities it served was also a huge component of Kona Ice from the beginning. Their company slogan is, "Shaved ice is what we do, giving back is who we are." To date, Kona Ice has donated over $40 million to local communities. Whether it be through financial support for schools, youth sports, or the many other local charities in need, Kona Ice is proud to be helping improve communities across the U.S. Their 2017 partner for their giveback program is AdoptAClassroom.org. Since that time, the accolades have affirmed Tony's vision. Kona Ice has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500 List for five years running, rated the Top New Franchise in 2013, and regularly in the Top 25 Fastest Growing Franchises list for the last five years. Kona Ice has been consistently ranked #1 and #2 in Franchisee Satisfaction by Franchise Business Review.
