Copyeditor
Santa Barbara Independent deliver fresh online news, arts, and entertainment coverage all day, every day.
As a journalist I’ve had the opportunity to interview and profile Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, Academy Award-winning actors, and Grammy Award-winning musicians. My articles have been viewed by readers nationally and internationally, quoted on artists and entertainer websites, and are frequently featured as cover stories. During my 17 years at the Santa Barbara Independent (independent.com) I was responsible for a multitude of jobs. First as managing editor, then as a senior editor, I helped shape the organizational structure of the company, oversaw and maintained a $10,000+ annual freelance budget, managed several editorial departments, and mentored interns, among other duties. In addition to my management capacity, I was the full-time Arts Editor. During my tenure overseeing and covering the Santa Barbara arts community, I co-created the annual Indy Dance Awards, started a live music video section called Side Notes, and cofounded the Indy Book Club. I wrote numerous cover stories and features for the paper as well as weekly profiles, reviews, and previews. I spent years writing and editing for the Irish newspaper, the Irish Herald, and I also have experience in the high-tech sector, as I was a copy editor at Adobe and Macromedia and an arts editor for the print/online magazine NewsMedia.com. I am currently a copyeditor with RH Design (rh.com), a freelance writer for North Coast Journal (NCJ.com), and a freelance copyeditor for Rocky Nook publishing (rockynook.com)
