Principal Communications Officer Inter-American Development Bank Better Development Ideas to More People
The IDB is the main source of multilateral financing in Latin America. It provides solutions to development challenges and support in the key areas of the region.
Changing the course of a country's development starts with powerful ideas, and too many good ideas fail to connect with audiences. I'm passionate about using my experience in journalism to help good ideas become good practices. I do this by providing strategic communications advice and training to senior managers and experts of the Inter-American Development Bank. I use both traditional media as well as advanced digital tools that leverage the reach of social media -- both paid and organic. Since the IDB megaphone is a limited one, I work with our technical teams to find ways to help governments communicate better to generate more trust. Much of my work involves coaxing key messages out of our specialists and translating them into prose that engages the broadest possible audience through blogs, events, press releases, talking points, op-eds, presentations and scripts. I do this in Spanish and English, often in close coordination with governments, the private sector and academia. I help management navigate communications during reputational crises. I have led media communications outreach for complex and high-profile publications and events, including the IDB's Annual Meetings, our CEO Summits and Citizen Security Week, with hundreds of journalists in attendance. I'm working or have worked in digital governments, anti-corruption and crime prevention, trade and integration, migration, and trade and integration. One region of special focus for me is the Caribbean. The IDB's most powerful medium of communications are its blogs, and I have edited or overseen GobernArte, Sin Miedos, Viva Sustainability, Ideas Matter, and Caribbean DevTrends. Occasionally, I write for fun: https://wheelstoriesandpinksocks.wordpress.com I race bikes every now and then: https://www.strava.com/athletes/pbachelet
