Bio

Brilliant Mhlanga is an Academic, a Researcher, & a Human Rights Activist from Matebeleland. Participated in the Research Excellence Framework (REF-2014) as part of the Media Research Group, University of Hertfordshire. His expertise covers Media, Public Policy, Politics, Development Studies & Cultural Studies, & has extensively published in these areas. He holds a PhD from the University of Westminster, an MA in Cultural & Media Studies, a BSc Hon in Sociology & a BA Degree. His most recent book: 'Bondage of Boundaries & identity politics in Postcolonial Africa: the 'Northern Problem' & ethno-futures'. And is currently working on another project provisionally titled: 'On the Banality of Evil: Cultural Particularities & Genocide in Africa.' He has also published book chapters & articles in peer-reviewed journals. His interdisciplinary approach has influenced his research interests & writings. Dr Mhlanga is a recipient of various scholarships, grants & fellowships that include; i. A full Scholarship at Brown University's International Research Institute, Rhode Island, US, ii. A scholarship at the Legon Centre for International Affairs (LECIA), University of Ghana, iii. Communication & Media Research Scholarship - a University of Westminster Scholarship, iv. A Research grant on ‘Southern African Indigenous Thought Leaders Programme’ by the Academy of Educational Development (AED) in collaboration with W. K. Kellogg Foundation, v. Archbishop Desmond Tutu fellowship - African Leadership Institute & University of Oxford, vi. New & Emerging Leaders' Fellowship - Crans Montana Forum, Brussels, Belgium. He also does political analysis for BBC, Voice of America's Studio 7, to mention a few. His research interests are - International Relations & Politics, Development Studies, Community Radio, Ethnic Minority Media, Ethnicity & postcolonial studies, media policy & political economy.
