Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international corporate law firm.
I am a skilled media lawyer with 30+ years experience handling First Amendment defense and intellectual property litigation and governmental affairs for free speech, press and government transparency matters. I am board certified in civil appellate law and licensed to practice law in Texas, California, New York, D.C., and Colorado. I've been ranked nationally by Chambers USA as a top First Amendment lawyer in the U.S. and was the first recipient of the American Lawyer Tony Mauro Media Lawyer of the Year award for dedication to First Amendment protections and passage of laws to protect free expression. In addition, the National Law Journal selected me as First Amendment Trailblazer. My work includes media defense and IP litigation at all levels of federal and state courts; advocacy for passage of government transparency and free expression protection laws at state, national level, and international level. And, extensive vetting experience, including previous position as production attorney for television shows Judge Alex and Christina's Court. I have particular expertise in Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation and have served as an Advisor to the Uniform Law Commission drafting committee for its Model Anti-SLAPP Law. Most recently, I was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to research the impact of SLAPP suits in the EU, advocate for passage of Anti-SLAPP laws at a national level in the EU and US, and increase global awareness of the need to protect the core human right of freedom of expression and freedom to access information from this form of judicial harassment.
