Business is my true passion. I am senior at CSU Chico majoring in Business Human Resources, pursuing a minor in Ethics, Justice, and Policy, and Treasurer for the SHRM Student Chapter on campus.I made an executive decision to walk into Chico's College of Business and declare myself a Business Human Resources major. The decision was quite easy, and as soon as I entered my first BADM 101 class I felt an excitement I hadn't felt in my math classes. I could do this, I was excited about it, I wanted to learn more, and I wanted to work with these like-minded people. After looking at my passed experiences I realized that I love to work with people. For instance, I served as a Mentor for Friday Night Live and was trusted to be a role model for junior high students. The kids were great, and it was a powerful feeling to realize the influence an older individual has on shaping young minds. Chico's credential program had a similar effect. For a while I taught math at Chico Junior High. While teaching I noticed I was more interested in getting to know the students than teach them this new, foreign Common Core curriculum. Eventually, I decided I wanted to get involved with business. I joined Chico's volunteer organization, Community Action Volunteer Experience (CAVE), and began assisting in operational classroom activities at Chico Junior High such as making photocopies, delivering messages, watching over classroom behaviors, etc... Then, I began working at Papa Murphy's where I enjoyed answering phone calls, conversing with customers, and teaching new coworkers. It taught me a lot about Big Business, and I was able to use many of the tools I learned at work and apply it to my studies. When I take the parts of business I love it all comes down to HR!
