Principal Scientist for Oceans and Ice
ESA provides funding as well as technical and business support for the development of space-based products, services and applications.
For over 20 years I have been motivated to drive change in the international Earth observation community by successfully implementing and managing innovative scientific solutions, alternative approaches and cultures. I have pioneered disruptive demonstration and evolution projects in the ocean and ice domain securing international resources and commitments through strong team leadership and community motivation. I collaborate closely with business, industry, academics and end user communities: fostering excellent cooperation networks and empowering teams to successfully deliver new hardware technologies, digital services, new products, exciting applications and service prototypes that are reported in over 75 scientific journal articles. In the new digital paradigm of ‘big-data’ with public-private shared resources/responsibility, I will continue to develop disruptive approaches of exploration and continuous innovation of EO for societal benefit. Goal: Leading change for a new paradigm in Earth observation that is agile, cost effective, takes risks to innovate, works in a holistic cross-cutting manner and looks after its people. One that delivers the greatest success to further understanding of our oceans and the threat of climate change. Specialties: Scientific leadership Infrared radiometry and instrument design Scientific project management Scientific program management Scientific negotiation Intergovernmental organisations Management of Scientific user requirements for earth observation satellites. Development and operation of autonomous in situ infra-red radiometers Development of calibration radiance sources for infra-red radiometers Substantial experience and track record of International science relations Implementation, operation and assessment of scientific service delivery.
