I have devoted most of my career to the study of patient behavior, patient communication, and patient engagement. I am specifically interested in behavioral informatics—how people experience being a “patient,” and how we can use technology to enhance that experience. In 1990, I founded Leap of Faith Technologies, Inc, a digital health company that integrates existing and emerging technologies, high-impact content, and strategies for delivery to improve patient compliance and healthcare outcomes. A range of technology based solutions have been developed to address needs in community health, occupational health, women’s health, child health, genetics, geriatrics, and telehealth. Ongoing funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the SBIR program has been pivotal in this work. Most recently, I have been involved in the launch of LOF, LLC, a venture capital and holding company for intellectual property and licensing that facilitates and supports informatics innovation during the various phases of product development and commercialization.
