Duolingo is the world s most popular way to learn languages online with over 170 million users. Founded in 2011 by crowdsourcing pioneer Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker, it is the most downloaded Education app on iOS and Android and has been awarded Apple's iPhone App of the Year and Android's Best of the Best.

As Duolingo's first head of HR I get to build the HR practice for this fast paced, tech start-up. Prior to joining Duolingo I was an executive at Vanguard. In my last role I helped our organization implement a comprehensive service model transformation of our people, processes, and technology. Functionally, I served as Vanguard’s Global Head of Culture and Inclusion. In this role I created and led our center of expertise, developed our strategy, and implemented the strategy through partnership and consultation with our senior business leaders. But I'm not your typical HR professional. I've spent half my career working in the business. At Vanguard I also worked in client management (managing a $50B book of business), risk management (creating the risk management program for our largest division), operations management (leading a team of 250+ employees), and process improvement (earning a Six Sigma Black Belt designation). Although I've held a number of different functional roles, I've been in leadership for 15+ years. I've led small teams of functional experts and large teams of employees. I’m passionate about making our community strong and vibrant. I’ve held a number of leadership positions in non-profit and community-volunteer organizations.
