I am The Denver Post's director of audience development, responsible for growing our audience and ensuring that our journalism is read, viewed and shared by as many people as possible while maintaining our values to accurately and quickly inform the people of Colorado. My work involves heavy use of data and analytics to understand who are audience is and why they engage with our content. Previously, I was The Post's digital director of sports. I oversaw mobile, web, social and digital sports coverage, which involved leading a team of producers to deliver the most comprehensive coverage of professional, collegiate and high school sports in the state. Before that, I was The Post's first social media editor. My work includes training our journalists to become more fluent in digital content creation. I teach a variety of topics: how to report with mobile devices; how to use social media in news gathering and content distribution; how to harness SEO techniques to improve reach; and how to use analytics to understand how a journalist's content resonates with audiences. I continue to write, shoot still photos and video, not only because I love it, but because it gives me a better understanding of what our journalists must endure to deliver information quickly in a digital world.
