My career in the newspaper industry has been varied as I have been given the opportunity to prove myself in myriad roles. I began as a photojournalist in Abilene, Texas. Eight years later, I was a news editor at an 80,000 circulation daily newspaper, overseeing the copy and design desk. I also took a giant leap and landed in Beijing for 1 year working one on one with Chinese reporters for the US edition of China's largest English-language newspaper, China Daily. Since returning to the U.S., I accepted a role at MediaNews Group that includes training newsroom employees on a variety of platforms, both for print and online systems. I also communicate to key leaders within the company content that can be shared across the company. As we all know about the current state of journalism, my main goal is to try and maximize on efficiency and make technology do the work for us. I thrive in leadership roles, and take chances, such as moving to the other side of the world to experience new things. I am also a great multitasker as well as a good visual journalist, all while under the pressure of a daily deadline. Specialties: Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InCopy, BLOX (the online CMS for MediaNews Group) and SaxoPress/NCS Content (the print CMS for MediaNews Group). Other computer skills include knowledge of Methode, CCI, Dreamweaver and basic HTML.
