The Davey Tree Expert Company has announced the appointment of Chris Fields-Johnson to Technical Advisor within The Davey Institute.

I was fortunate to have a first career that allowed me to develop skills in a multitude of areas. At one point or another, I was responsible for strategic planning, capital investment allocation, large customer and union negotiations, field operations leadership, training and development, and finance and administrative oversight of a division. I have published articles and spoken at national conferences and remain confident in either written or oral communication. My position over the past decade gave me access to all levels of personnel both internally and externally and I learned a lot from that experience. I am a big believer in understanding the "why" of a process or issue. Simply knowing how something is being done without considering why leaves very little room for improvement or gain. Additionally, I believe that truly understanding the needs of all stakeholders is the only way to create actual progress or system improvement. A truly collaborative environment with open dialogue and honest evaluation of all ideas and perspectives creates personal investment from those involved and that is what generates long term success for both individuals and organizations.
