Legal Department Work Experience

Cygnet Health Care Limited is an independent providers of inpatient mental health treatment.

I am the Communication and Projects Officer at Tibshelf Parish Council, a village of 4000+ residents. This role is multifaceted and varied, in which I run the communications (website, social media and newsletter), help with planning (Neighbourhood Development Plan) and regeneration of the High Street, write strategy documents (Communications Strategy and Parish Council Action Plan) and finally the organise the Parish Council's projects (such as renovation and building work). In this role, I utilise skills such as project management, website management, marketing, copywriting, publication production and land/planning legal knowledge. I regularly work independently and in teams, and interact with stakeholders. In my academic life, I most recently was a post-graduate MRes student in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham. My thesis considered the policy creation process of the Department of Justice and within this, analysed modern conceptions of democracy. I further considered an epistemic account of democratic legitimacy and proposed the 'service democracy'; a model of democracy that would allow for greater roles of experts and evidence in political association and policy creation. It interacts with the works of Plato, John Stuart Mill, John Rawls, Jurgen Habermas, John Dryzec, David Estlund, Helene Landemore, John Locke, Max Weber, Joseph Schumpeter, Robert Dahl and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Before this, I studied a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in International Criminal Justice and Armed Conflict and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
