Starting out as a school teacher then being offed a job as a cameraman set me on a pathway to broadcast media production. Working up from a technical position, I moved into production management. An opportunity to become a partner in a production company led to my position as CEO of Mediac International. My career has involved me in all aspects of media business production. As an Art director I planned, shot and produced many television commercials, worked with major advertising agencies, television stations and external vendors. I honed client relation skills, learnt through trial and error budgeting, accounting and business practice. My people management skills were tested on my biggest project ‘Puppetman’ a six part television series for Channel4 UK, where the production had 22 lead actors, 112 support actors and over a thousand extras, a location crew of 45 and a support crew of 60. The project lasted 14 months. I was in charge of all aspects of production from initial production budgeting to final delivery of the programs. After selling my shareholding in Mediac I formed London Location Shooting Services providing location services for many top networks. These included the BBC, Reuters, Channel4, ITN, CBS, NBC, MBC, long form production services for ‘Hard Copy’, ‘BBC News Night’. A family lifestyle change, moving to Australia, allowed me to rethink. I decided to study in a Masters of Education. This reinvigorated my interest in lecturing, which I had been doing at Middlesex University in the UK. I was offered the post as Head of Mass Communication at the Australian Institute for University Studies (AIUS). A year later I took Design into my portfolio running both courses at Diploma and Degree levels. When the campus was sold, I was invited to Curtin Bentley to lecture in the Design department. I have traveled much of the world in different production capacities, giving me a well-rounded international experience of media requirements internationally.
