Public Safety Journalist
Azcentral.com is a publishing company which specializes in publishing, marketing, advertising, media, and news.
I'm a Northern Colorado enterprise journalist covering law enforcement, criminal justice, mental health, emergency services, natural disaster and other items that pique my interest. Since arriving at The Fort Collins Coloradoan in March 2014, I've covered the news of the day and led award-winning public service investigative efforts. Among the highlights: A project about the shockingly high rate of suicide in the so-called Choice City; a project probing gaps in the criminal justice system when it comes to sentencing hit-and-run motorists; a historical look-back on the state's deadliest natural disaster; and an international reporting assignment that took me to the coast of Libya documenting the deadliest year on record for refugees trying to make the crossing to Europe. I've led the Coloradoan's breaking news team and recently transitioned into an investigative role. I also spend too much time on Twitter. Prior to joining the Coloradoan I was the public safety reporter at The Greeley Tribune and My Windsor Now. I've also interned or freelanced for The Denver Post, Scene Magazine and North 40 News along with the Rocky Mountain Collegian, Colorado State University's daily student newspaper. In addition to journalism, I will graduate in May, 2017, with my MA in Sociology from Colorado State University. My thesis research hinged on better understanding the ways emergency messaging occurred in a rural mountain community during the 2013 Colorado Floods. Outside of journalism, communications and sociology, I've run ten marathons (including Boston), bicycled 4,000 miles across the U.S. and am more than halfway done climbing Colorado's 54 14,000-foot mountains. 'May the best of your past be the worst of your future.'
