I am the Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”) for Zotec Partner's emergency medicine (EM) division. Zotec Partners provides medical coding, billing and physician practice management services to hospital-based physicians in a majority of states in the US. In January '08 and until Sept. 2013, I was the CCO of Medical Management Professionals (MMP). I was responsible for the MMP Compliance Dept. including the Coding Quality Assurance (Coding Q/A) and Corporate Coding Departments, respectively, who provided Coding Q/A, training and claims auditing for radiology, anesthesia and pathology in addition to EM. Zotec Partners acquired MMP in Sept. 2013. Prior to MMP’s November 2007 acquisition of Healthcare Business Resources, Inc. (“HBR), I was SVP Compliance and General Counsel for HBR. I had responsibility for the legal affairs and compliance functions for all of HBR and served on HBR’s Board of Directors. HBR was one of the first national medical billing companies to voluntarily adopt a corporate compliance program in 1994. I am a co-founder, past vice chair and chairman, and current Board of Directors and Exec. Committee member of the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (“EDPMA”), a national trade association advocating for ED physician groups and their partners. I graduated from Alma College, Bachelor of Arts with honors, and Wake Forest University School of Law, Juris Doctor. After a judicial clerkship at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, I was in private law practice specializing in litigation. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar, and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. Specialties: Since 2006, I have served on the faculty for the American College of Emergency Physicians (“ACEP”) national Reimbursement Conference and has presented frequently to state ACEP conferences. In September 2008, I became a member of the ACEP Reimbursement Committee.
