Woodside Petroleum Limited is an Australian petroleum exploration and production company.

A senior leader in the energy industry, with a passion for strategy, innovation and the role oil and gas companies will play in the energy transition. During a 17-year career with Woodside, Gareth has worked across the value chain from exploration to operations in technical, business and leadership roles while delivering sustained strong performance. This has involved working in the Pluto and North West Shelf business units, development projects (Browse), climate & sustainability, corporate strategy & planning, internal audit, and emergency management, which has included advising senior executives and working with Joint Venture Partners. In addition, he has led the development and implementation of global industry initiatives and projects through the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP). Throughout his career, Gareth has demonstrated strong 'systems thinking' skills, strategic acumen and visionary leadership. He’s also experienced in leading significant change, facilitating executive level workshops and managing multi-disciplinary teams that deliver outstanding results. Furthermore, Gareth is highly skilled at synthesising complex information to formulate recommendations and inform key business decisions at Executive Committee and Board level of an Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) top 20 company. A selection of some of Gareth’s achievements are summarised below: - Key contributor to Woodside’s inaugural 2021 Climate Report that went to a non-binding advisory vote of shareholders. - Led Woodside’s long-term planning and governance crisis management team at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic (scenario planning, Board reporting, communicating updates to ~2,000 staff). - Developed the business case underpinning Woodside’s transformation of its operating business (~100 MMboe, ~US$25bn) ahead of merger with BHP Petroleum. - Successfully led Woodside’s innovation forum organising committee (2-day event, 600+ attendees). - Selected by executive sponsor to support the redesign of Woodside’s performance management system, which was implemented in 2020. - One of three Woodside staff picked to attend a global and cross-sector sustainable leadership program known as the ‘Leadership Vanguard’ based on performance and potential. To complement his experience, Gareth holds a BSc from Curtin University, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has a certificate in ‘Leading with Finance’ from Harvard’s online business school, and is a graduate of the ‘Leadership Vanguard’ program.
