Dr. Amos received her BS from Indiana University and her OD from UAB/School of Optometry. She was the first female graduate of the school in 1974. She held positions at the School of Optometry as a teaching assistant, instructor, Clinical Assistant and Associate Professor until 2004. She started a private practice in Hoover, Alabama in 1978 which was merged into a large group practice in 1994, EyeCare Associates. She has served on numerous committees and boards of many professional organization during career. Dr. Amos served as President of the Birmingham Area Optometric Society, President of the Alabama Optometric Association (ALOA), Chairman of the Board, Vision Service Plan, President of the Board of the American Optometric Foundation, President of the UAB School of Optometry Alumni Association; Board of Directors, Women's Network and served on the Advisory Board for the Amelia Center. She has published 10 refereed papers and presented over 30 continuing education courses. She is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, Optometric Honorary Scholastic Society, winner of the Ezell Memorial Award 1978; President's Service Award, (ALAO) 1979; inducted into the Women's Academy of the Southern Women's Archives, 1981; Optometrist of the Year, 1983; President's Service Award, ALOA 1989, 50 Most Influential Women in Optical 2003; "Women's Exchange" 2003 Calendar Profile; Alumna of the Year Award 2005; UAB School of Optometry Alumni Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is married to Dr. John Amos and they together have supported the renovation of the UAB Eye Care through the donation of an examination room and established an endowed scholarship in their names for the School of Optometry. They have also supported UAB sports programs over many years. Dr. Amos has supported Blazer Women's Athletic Society by sponsoring luncheon for their Belles and Whistles events. Dr. Amos is a life member of the UAB School of Optometry Alumni Association.
