Ten years ago my career as a communications professional took shape when I graduated with honours from Humber College’s public relations certification program following my undergraduate studies at McMaster University. Since then, I’ve spent time in agency, industry and higher education building and leading impactful communications for brands both big and small, causes close to my heart, and companies in transition or crisis. Most recently, I veered into digital territory, taking on management of digital communications and content strategy for Canada’s leading engineering school at the University of Waterloo. My PR and communications expertise is put to the test daily as I manage digital strategy, web content and social media. With a large group of contributors and editors in the digital space, I’ve provided leadership and training to ensure we write, design and plan digital content effectively. Since I’m a storyteller and writer at heart, content is my passion. Shifting to focus on digital was critical.There’s a big cause-oriented side to me as well. Tapping into that, I recently led the Faculty of Engineering through a massive web transition that not only enhanced the user experience and brand continuity, it also ensured our compliance with provincial legislation (AODA - Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) for web accessibility requirements.
