Success is the goal after all isn’t it? On the path to success there are many challenges and I have learned that focusing on weaknesses only creates more obstacles. Conversely, applying strengths and will to learn diminish these obstacles. In college I was the Director of Community Service for my Fraternity. I coordinated fundraisers, community service events, and philanthropies. I gravitated towards a child and family services agency and got a start in the Human Resource department. I had no background or knowledge of HR. I had “weaknesses” in knowledge and experience, but I had a will to learn and grow and I instantly enjoyed Human Resources. In my first few months, I created an agency library and became an administrator for the agency’s online training resource. I began to train our new hires during on-boarding and became a CPR/First Aid Instructor. I became the go-to person for agency reports and metrics. I then got promoted as the HRIS Administrator which allowed me to use my strengths in systems and analytics in my HR job. Using what I had learned and building on what I enjoyed, I went on to become the HR Implementation Coordinator at MMC. Here I combine my love of HR systems and my experience of implementation. I found that “weaknesses” do not translate to failure. A willingness to learn, grow, and develop overshadows deficiencies. I became an integral member of my team. I wear many hats and took on many responsibilities. I continually learn more about Human Resources, HRIS, and consulting every day and I discovered enjoyment for data manipulation, analytics, and process improvement.
