Performance Engineer IV

I am an experienced Performance Engineer and Systems Architect, with a passion for performance and cost optimization and designing and building tools and systems. I am a very strong collaborator and communicator and am adept at discovering and solving performance problems. I have been doing performance engineering for over 19 years, and been in the field of systems/software engineering for over 25 years. My performance engineering career started at Lockheed Martin, where I was mentored by 2 top-level Performance Engineers who were expert in application and systems performance. At Synacor I was the sole Performance Engineer for 5 years where I built and managed a load testing environment (physical, virtual, and cloud), designed and built all tools and processes for automated end-to-end performance testing, analysis, and management, and executed over 10,000 load tests. I identified hundreds of bottlenecks (in production and in development environments), and championed load testing in production. The tools I built got praise from many at Synacor, and those tools are still operating today and helping to solve performance problems. I led the Dev Tricks program for the company, which allowed developers to share knowledge on a variety of technical and business related topics. My last 2 years at Synacor I was the Senior Systems Architect and was responsible to ensure that all of the companies many datacenter and cloud deployments were operating correctly and that any new deployments met my standards. I evolved the deployment standards and built a streamlined architecture review process to quickly enable developers to deploy their systems safely into production. One of my key achievements was leading the pilot program that evaluated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for all of our products -- all products performed and costs were significantly lowered. I then led the migration of these systems from our physical data enters into OCI. At ACV Auctions, I've led a diverse team of contractors to build the tools, processes, and infrastructure to enable performance testing for all of ACVs systems, using the most modern tech (k6 and Kubernetes). As ACV acquires companies, I work with them to improve their performance and get tests built for their systems. I am introducing HTTP caching to improve performance. I am currently consulting with Synacor to do more load testing for them.
