Director of Research Strategy, Policy and Support

We are a student society in the University of St. Andrews' Student Association whose aims are: To promote an intellectual, spiritual and physical enabling of potential in ways not otherwise offered at St. Andrews University To connect students and staff with the global Future-orientated reform movement, and to one another so that ideas and information may be shared. To hold an annual multi-disciplinary lecture series on The New Way of Thinking (which is characterised by, but not limited to, a post-Cartesian dynamic systems-based worldview). Our members can optionally affiliate with the International Futures Forum , a Fife-based Future-orientated consultancy and think-tank.

Helen graduated with a PhD in Cardiovascular Research from the University of Edinburgh in 1989. After three years working as a Clinical Biochemist in the NHS she spent two years carrying out post-doctoral research in a pharmaceutical company in Palo Alto, USA. On returning to the UK she worked on kinases with Professor Sir Philip Cohen at the University of Dundee before moving into research administration in 2004 at the University of St Andrews. She has a long-standing interest in the management of research information and was the lead on the introduction of a university-wide Research Information System (PURE) in 2010. Helen co-ordinated and planned St Andrews submissions to the most recent research assessment exercises; RAE2008 and REF2014. In addition, during the assessment phase of REF2014, Helen was recruited by the REF team to a position as Adviser to Main Panel A (Life Sciences). She is currently Director of Research Strategy, Policy & Support at the University of St Andrews.
