Media Relations Consultant and Communications Lead

Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit system of care dedicated to improving the health of families and individuals.

There are few types of projects I have not worked on in an award-winning 30-year career that has always focused on creating, editing and refining the written word. My experience includes positions as a print journalist, AP and IB writing and literature instructor, communications consultant and others listed below. I have worked with students, small businesses, corporate CEO’s and a variety of commercial and non-profit clients on a host of projects, including academic dissertations, PR and marketing campaigns, essays and articles, speeches, scripts, multimedia advertising copy and technical manuals, among many other endeavors. I have substantial international experience, Spanish-language fluency, and expertise in the fields of biomedical research, health care, education, Hispanic-Latino multicultural issues, and municipal and state government. I currently work for Spectrum Health, where I manage news media and communications strategy for a number of clinical service lines. Prior to this, I spent nearly seven years as communications manager for Van Andel Institute, a biomedical research institute with a focus on the epigenetics of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. My creative writing is widely published in print and online, and I am the author of the poetry collection, Wanderings at Deadline (Aldrich Press, 2012).
