Head of Information Security
Discover Susquehanna, a global quantitative trading firm built on a rigorous, analytical foundation in financial markets.
My experience has taught me that a security program is most successful when it first understands and aligns itself with the organization. Understanding the key things that are most important and valuable to an organization frames what to protect and how to protect it. Add to that solid risk management practices, innovation, grit, collaboration, an unquenchable hunger for learning and a group of highly talented professionals, a security program not only becomes highly effective, it soars and becomes an enabler for an organization. My experience in security and IT spans back to 1998, when I retrained from a U-2 spy plane mechanic into computers/communications and information security in the US Air Force. After serving almost 9 years (active duty) in the US Air Force, I honorably separated and started work with Susquehanna International Group (SIG); a fast paced, highly innovative hi-tech financial services firm based just outside of Philadelphia. Since then, I’ve worked my way up from a security engineer to the Head of Information Security for SIG. My background is highly technical, enriched with several years of operations, engineering, architecture, and risk management, and rounded out with several years in leadership and management. In my career I’ve designed, implemented and managed solutions to solve difficult problems in complex environments, gaining an expertise across a wide variety of technologies, including Windows, UNIX/Linux, network, and security platforms along the way. Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in several facets of security, including administration, engineering, architecture, threat/vulnerability management, audit/assessment, incident detection/response, awareness/training, and policy development. And although I'm proud of the technical achievements, my proudest achievements have to do with the people I've worked with; those I've helped develop and the teams I've been fortunate enough to build.
