I specialize in the preparation and prosecution of software patents in technical areas such as media encoding and decoding (codecs), cryptography, quantum communications, database architectures, data visualization, and user interface design. When prosecuting a patent, my goal is to provide a client with a valuable IP asset for licensing, litigation or defensive purposes. I actively manage patent prosecution towards that goal. With the help of others, I have managed prosecution of complex portfolios of cases, including over 1500 patents and applications in the US and abroad, to successful outcomes. Although most of my practice involves U.S. patents, I have experience with patent prosecution in Europe, Japan, China and other countries. Aside from patent prosecution, I have extensive experience with third-party patent review projects (e.g., non-infringement analysis, invalidity analysis) and portfolio analysis projects. I also have experience with patent litigation and reexamination.
