Volunteer Development Manager
As the home of human ingenuity, the Science Museum's world-class collection forms an enduring record of scientific, technological and medical achievements from across the globe. Welcoming over 3 million visitors a year, the Museum aims to make sense of the science that shapes our lives, inspiring visitors with iconic objects, award-winning exhibitions and incredible stories of scientific achievement.
Passionate about helping people and enabling the business to succeed, I am a heritage professional with over ten years’ experience in volunteering and volunteer management. For six years I was a trustee and Chair of York CVS and I am the founder and chair of the Heritage Volunteering Group – the sector’s leading volunteer management network. Currently I am leading the transformation of volunteering across Science Museum Group, where I work on cultural change, strategic development, policy creation and systems development. Our ambition is to deliver operationally, strategically and socially impactful volunteer programmes that transform our museums and the lives of our volunteers. In 2014, I founded the Heritage Volunteering Group. Our mission is to help the sector unlock the power of volunteering by creating connections between practitioners, leaders and organisations and by inspiring collaboration and the sharing of best practice, resources and research. We run free local networking events, deliver an annual conference and in 2019 published our research into volunteering in the heritage sector.
