Prof. Dr. Volker Rupertus is an experienced scientist in the field of surface and solid state physics with focus on glass and ceramic materials and their interaction with e.g. parenteral drugs, environment, processing lines. He studied technical physics at the University of Kaiserslautern finishing his PhD in the field of glass surface science. Since 1995 he started his career at SCHOTT in the central R&D department. As head of the analytical and process development department he worked with his group for more than a decade for several SCHOTT divisions in the field of process development & characterization. Since 2000 he joined the BU Pharmaceutical Systems as Head of Global Quality switching to an advisory function as Senior Principal Expert. Rupertus provides since 2002 also lectures in the field of materials analysis and was appointed as Honory Professor at the Technical University of Clausthal. 2015 he receives the Turner Award of the International Commission on Glas (ICG) Field of Expertise: - Material Analysis & Diagnostics (focus on Glass and Non-Crystalline Solids) - Quality Management in the field of Pharmaceutical Packaging (ISO 9001; ISO 15378; ISO 13485) - Technical Asessment of glass converting and primary packaging handling in pharmaceutical filling lines - Technical Consulting in the field of Parenteral Packaging and Glass-Container Interaction Since 2010 Focus on pharmaceutical applications: -Glass delamination caused by interaction with drugs -Forming influence during converting of pharma containers -Process stability and inline metrology for glass converting lines -Glass defect analysis and diagnostics -Implementation of GMP-based processes -Implementation of a global Quality System -Internal assessments /audits -Complaint Management and CAPA on global base Around 60 invited lectures at international scientific conferences More than 30 papers
