My interest for disaster management started during my PhD studies focused on the analysis of the urban environment through remotely sensed images (SAR and optical) and on damage assessment after disasters. After my PhD I worked as Project Manager for the International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" on behalf of the European Space Agency, where I was in charge of the management of the full cycle of the Charter activations – from the selection of the most appropriate data for the specific event to the communication with data providers, map providers and end users in the field. From June 2009 to April 2012 I have worked as Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist for the IPSC Institute of the EC JRC, where I was involved in research projects focused on the analysis of urban areas from satellite imagery and in disaster management projects and activities, like the PDNA in collaboration with the World Bank and the United Nations. In 2012 I worked as Technical Manager, Remote Sensing Specialist, at Exelis Vis, Bracknell. From October 2012 I am working as Senior Catastrophe Exposure Modeller at Risk Management Solutions, London. Here I am in charge of the disaggregation of exposure calculated at coarse resolution (postcode, region) to a finer scale (10m to 50m depending on resolution of datasets available). I am also responsible for the production and quality of geo-spatial datasets used in exposure development. I interact on a daily basis with other team members based in our California and India offices. I am peer reviewer for the IEEE Geosc. and RS Letters, the IEEE Geosc. and Remote Sensing Transactions, the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS) and the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. I am Council Member of RSPSoc, the UK's leading Society for remote sensing and photogrammetry.
