Areas of practice Alex Zhang specializes in intellectual property and technology laws. Mr. Zhang’s areas of practice include intellectual property counseling, intellectual property procurement and portfolio management, opinion and analysis, strategy, technology licensing, litigation and other matters related to intellectual property rights. In particular, Mr. Zhang routinely assists international clients to prosecute their patent rights, formulate IP strategies for their market entry and expansion in China, conduct IP due diligence and risk analysis, and enforce or defend IP rights by means of litigation and/or invalidity proceedings. Mr. Zhang experience encompasses a wide range of industries, including electrical engineering, computer science, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, gaming, and others. Work experience Mr. Zhang joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2001. Prior to that, he was a patent attorney at the Patent & Trademark Law Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. He received professional training both in China and the United States. Before starting his legal career, he worked as a technician in a research lab for two years. He speaks extensively at international conferences and seminars regarding Chinese intellectual property laws and practices, hosted by Stanford University, Practicing Law Institute, California State Bar Association, Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Law Association, and others. Mr. Zhang received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Hangzhou Institute of Electrical Engineering, a M.S. degree in Computer Science from Beijing Technology and Business University, and a LL.M. degree specializing in intellectual property laws from Santa Clara University School of Law. He was also a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School for one year. He was admitted as a patent agent in 1994 and an attorney-at-law in 1996 in China. Mr. Zhang is proficient in English and Chinese.
