L. David Sparks has made significant contributions to the pharmacy profession, especially in the practice of compounding, which is the pharmacy method of preparing medications to meet each prescriber’s and patient’s unique needs. Compounding is an area of pharmacy Mr. Sparks deeply believes is necessary for meeting patients’ medical challenges.Over the past several years, Mr. Sparks has led the effort to preserve pharmacists’ right to compound, and was instrumental, along with several other pharmacy organizations, in obtaining passage of the FDA reform legislation passed and signed into law in November 1997. Section 503 (a) 'Application of Federal Law to Practice of Pharmacy Compounding' ensured that compounding pharmacists have the ability to compound and preserves the critical triad relationship of the patient, physician and pharmacist.
