Outschool helps parents find and book learning activities for kids.

I am an experienced operational and financial leader, with a proven track record in scaling organizations, driving organizational change and instilling operational excellence and financial discipline. From January 2020 to October 2022, I served as Head of Operations for Outschool. Outschool's mission is to inspire kids to love learning, by providing a marketplace for K-12 online education. Kids take live, teacher-led classes over video chat. They follow their passions by choosing from over 50,000 available classes, led by passionate teachers, and interact with students from around the world. At Outschool, I reported to the CEO and ran our People Operations, Recruiting, Corporate Legal, Finance and Analytics teams, and our nonprofit subsidiary, Outschool.org, also reported to me. During my tenure, we hired over 150 employees, raised over $200 million, and were recognized as #58 in the Inc. magazine listing of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the US prior to our rapid expansion in 2020. Before joining Outschool, I served as COO/CFO for two San Francisco startups and one international conservation nonprofit. At WildAid, I was responsible for all non-programmatic operations, including development, finance, human resources, information technology, board management and the China subsidiary. At Locaid, I helped oversee the re-start and turnaround of the company, leading to a merger in 2015. At Telephia, I helped lead the company from a Series A startup to over 300 employees, $90 million in revenue, and a successful sale to The Nielsen Company in 2007. I have also provided management and financial expertise to nonprofit boards in education and conservation. I served as Treasurer to The Wildlands Network, a Seattle-based national conservation group. I also served on the Foundation Board of the Benjamin Franklin International School in Barcelona, where I led a successful global search for a new Head of School. At the Live Oak School in San Francisco, I served as board Vice President, ran the Head Search Committee, and served on the Finance Committee. I graduated from Duke University with a BS in Engineering and from UC Berkeley with an MBA and a MA in East Asian Studies. I have also worked as a management consultant in China, a political consultant in Taiwan, a software programmer, an electrical engineer, a short-order cook, and a paper boy.
