I love great journalism, interesting stories and running newsrooms. I've edited the largest newspaper in New Zealand, run an award-winning news website, am involved in journalism industry groups and, now, part of a team trying to unlock the power of local news.Plus I am fascinated by new journalism products.Currently, National Communities Editor at Fairfax Media NZ, overseeing the largest portfolio of community papers in NZ and working to establish our new local social media site, Neighbourly.co.nz. Previously I was Head of Digital Content for NZME (formerly APN), which runs some of the most successful websites in New Zealand including nzherald.co.nz.I was lucky enough to be Editor and Publisher of nzherald.co.nz, running a newsroom of digital journalists and a product development team, and am currently focusing on the growth of a hyper-local social media network, neighbourly.co.nz.I was Editor of the Weekend Herald, the largest circulating newspaper in New Zealand, and have been Head of News for the daily Herald.I have a special interest in journalism education and newsroom diversity.I am currently a member of various NZ media bodies, including the Media Freedom Committee and the Media-Judicial Liaison committee.And, outside work, I am fascinated by the rise of China, so I am undertaking a Diploma in Asian Studies into Chinese History, Culture and Politics.At home, I am married with two teenage daughters, meaning I know more about popular culture than a middle-aged man should.
