Saeju’s entrepreneurial journey started at age 19 when he established BuyHard Productions. First on the scene in 2001, BuyHard dominated the marketplace and quickly grew to include music and concert production, which introduced BuyHard to global markets. With the rising success of his first business, Saeju decided to drop out of the electrical engineering program at HongIk University to devote every waking hour to BuyHard. At the age of 22, Saeju joined the South Korean military to serve his country. During his three years of service, Saeju worked as an IT specialist for the South Korean defense. Once he completed his service, Saeju decided to seek his fortunes in New York City. Within months he built a team from the ground up for the Asian tour of the Broadway musical 'Bye Bye Birdie.' Despite Saeju’s success in all things music, he found himself drawn to his family’s business -- health and wellness. As the son of a physician who founded of South Korea’s largest private hospital (Chonnam Hospital) where Saeju still acts as a board member, Saeju had an intense desire to help people. So, in 2008, together with his close friend Artem Petakov, Saeju founded a wellness and technology company called Worksmart Labs, now known as Noom. 'Noom Weight Loss Coach' has been the United States’ top grossing health & fitness app on Google Play since November, 2012. In 2013, Saeju expanded Noom’s dominance into South Korea, Japan, Germany and the UK. During this expansion, Noom was awarded a prestigious grant from the U.S. government's National Institutes of Health (NIH). This grant was soon followed by a Life Insurance Fund (LIF) grant from the City of Seoul. Through Noom’s global press coverage, Saeju has appeared in over 300 media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, TechCrunch, Nikkei, Chosun and KBS. In 2014 Saeju was asked to join South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Technology, where he sits on the steering committee.
