Farad Azima, technology entrepreneur and philanthropist. An alumnus of Leeds University (1972), he founded Mission Electronics in 1977 followed by Cyrus Electronics in 1981. Later he headed two UK public companies from 1991 to 2003, Verity Group Plc and NXT Plc - both involved in manufacturing and scientific research; and both listed on the London Stock Exchange. In the 1990s he co-ventured the establishment of Three Counties Radio in East Anglia together with the Mail Newspapers group, served on the Industrial Advisory Board of Churchill College, Cambridge University and more recently he was appointed to the Advisory Board of LMEI, School of Oriental and African Studies, London University. His private passion is classical music and he has co-produced a series of baroque compilations with the prestigious Gramophone Magazine. He has numerous scientific inventions and international patents in his name and is currently a director of the NetScientific Group based in Cambridge and New York, as well as Advance Biosensors of Philadelphia. Farad Azima has devoted considerable time to philanthropy and, together with his two children, has founded a UK registered charity, the Azima Foundation (Charities Commission ref: 1094484). His wide-ranging charitable activities currently include the Menuhin International Violin Competition, of which he is a director and the Iran Heritage Foundation in London, of which he has been a trustee. He has over the years served on numerous fundraising committees including those of the Natural History Museum, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights and currently the Royal Academy of Arts. Trustee, Menuhin International Violin Competition.
