"Collaboration is in Deron’s DNA.” "Source of inspiration” Deron has served in three leadership positions and a variety of advisory roles for The Nature Conservancy. As the Conservation Project Director for The Nature Conservancy's North America Region, Deron is collaborating with colleagues throughout the global organization and partners across the continent to accelerate conservation impact. Deron previously served as the Executive Director of The Nature Conservancy in Georgia, leading a dedicated and increasingly diverse team of staff and trustees to protect, manage and restore Georgia's unique natural areas. In this role he led the coalition that developed and advocated for legislation allowing voters to approve by an 83% margin the creation of a conservation trust fund for Georgia. Before becoming Executive Director, Deron served as the Director of Conservation for Georgia. Deron came to the Conservancy from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources where he served on the State Water Plan leadership team, launched a water conservation campaign and directed an environmental school improvement program. Deron is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, an alumnus of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership and of Leadership Atlanta. He has been highlighted as a Leader in Nonprofit Service by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend magazine.
