Thirty three years experience teaching chemistry at the college level;from 1998-2014 directed an National Institutes of Health (NIH) Bridges to the Future Initiative -The STEPS Program which is a collaborative effort between MSUDenver and Community College of Denver and Community College of Aurora. With colleague have managed to introduce many students who come from groups who are underrepresented (UR) in biomedical research to the wonders of scientific research and in doing so encouraged these students to complete their Associate degrees, and transfer to a 4-yr colleges and complete bachelors Degrees. Over the years of the STEPS programs existence, the departments of Biology and Chemistry at MSUDenver have seen a 170% increase in their enrollment of UR students and former STEPS students are now matriculating into professional and graduate schools with regularity. Fall 2013 MSUDenver received a 5 yr. grant from the National Science Foundation establishing a scholarship program for Chemistry Majors. Dr. Walker was the Director of the Denver Metro Chem Scholars during that 5 year program. Dr Walker has retired from MSUDenver and will now be a freelance tutor
