“When I was young, my father would always bring home shoes from the factory he worked at, much to the disappointment of my brother and I who longed for expensive name brand shoes. One day we finally begged our father to buy us Nike shoes. His response was “why don’t you draw the shoes you want to wear and I will make them for you?” So we did. Each of us handed my father a drawing of our dream shoe. A couple of weeks later he returned home with the shoes we had designed. We were so excited and wore them to school the very next day. That was my first product design experience and it hooked me for life.” Denny was born in Taiwan, Taipei, in 1985. He left Taiwan for the United States at the age of 12. The process of transforming a sketch into actual functional objects fascinated him, and at a young age he knew he wanted to be an industrial designer. Denny started pursuing his design career at Art Center College of Design in California. He traveled to Italy to study footwear design, and studied abroad in Singapore at INSEAD. He graduated in 2007 and moved to San Francisco where he worked with several prominent design consultancies including Astro Studios and Fuseproject. At Fuseproject, he helped design MINT™ automatic floor cleaner, which won numerous design awards including IDEA and Good Design award. He joined Pip Tompkin Studio in 2010 and has helped design many successful products. Denny is fluent in both English and Mandarin. Denny is driven to make a positive impact on the world, one big idea at a time.
