•Mike Lovell is Emeritus Professor of Petrophysics at the University of Leicester, UK. He has been involved in using petrophysics for over 40 years, starting with studies of seafloor sediments and then, through ocean drilling, in exploring the ocean crust. •Mike has been involved extensively with the SPWLA and has been Vice President (Publications), a Distinguished Speaker, President of the SPWLA Foundation, and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. He received a University Distinguished Teaching Fellowship award for his innovative and engaging approaches to teaching petrophysics. •Mike’s research has included geological based petrophysics, petrophysics education, and the petrophysics of conventional and unconventional reservoirs. His research has involved collaboration with industry as well as considerable involvement with ocean drilling worldwide. •Mike taught reservoir geoscience and petrophysics on campus, including a period in Brazil. He still delivers an interactive introduction to the petrophysics of conventional reservoirs remotely in live 3 hour sessions over 6 days through Nautilus. •Mike’s professional roles have covered a diverse range of activity, including Department chair (2004-2014), chair of University Geoscience UK (2011-2014), President of the LPS (1999-2001), Vice President of SPWLA and membership of various ocean drilling panels (2000-present), and as a previous member of the BGS advisory board ((2011-2014).
