As a 7 year old boy, the dream job was to be a "car-park attendant". It ticked all the boxes for me. Being well organised, problem solving using logic, helping and communicating with people and I have always loved cars.It's similar to the types of things that motivate me today, although writing my first computer programme on a ZX Spectrum at 10 years old lead to technology becoming a far greater passion than cars.It's been an exciting technology journey since then: Building my first Desktop PC from spare parts; my first dial-up Internet connection supplied with Netscape Navigator 3; building my first HTML/Flash websites in 2000; gaining a first class BSc. honours degree in Computer and Network Technology and eventually stumbling on technology as a career.I have had the good fortune to spend nearly 10 years in a profession that I love.Innovation has been at the heart of my career, whether it's bringing the on-air and digital experiences together with new systems for 12 radio stations and working on the launch of UK Radioplayer or using "big data" to change the online experience and relationship with customers across 12 country/language specific e-commerce sites. The innovation isn't at the expense of what's important today, where a number of initiatives including re-designing, architecting and building systems to improve reliability, scalability and redundancy or making use of data and test tools to ensure that change is measured against business goals. Real change without losing sight of the core functions that help the business operate and grow on a day-to-day basis.
