Purchasing Manager Rebuilds

FLSmidth Roymec designs and manufactures bulk material handling solutions customers in South Africa and internationally.

I work as a Purchasing Manager in the Customer Service Division for a leader in the mining industry. My position requires me to work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Quality and Logistics to ensure that we provide the customer with a product that meets or exceeds their needs in regards to quality and on time delivery. To do this effectively you must not only evaluate the customers'​ needs and expectations, but also the supply chains ability to meet these requirements on time and on budget. The ability for a supplier to provide a quality product on budget is irrelevant if the customers need-by date is missed. In order to consistently achieve this, a company must build strong, mutually beneficial relationships throughout the product cycle. I have a background in the machining process, quality requirements, and engineering specifications that help me evaluate our supplier base in a logical and effective manner. I have worked in the manufacturing industry for 15+ years where I have acquired extensive knowledge in multiple areas including but not limited to; welding and fabrication, foundry and metallurgical processes and procurement procedures. Over this time I have gained experience with CAD software, acquired my AWS CWI and helped evaluate multiple foundries both foreign and domestic. I attempt to approach all aspects of live, both personally and professionally, in a calm logical manner. I personally feel that most issues that arrive are handled better when we take a step back and address them with a levelheaded perspective, sometimes this is easier said than done. While we tend to rush to fix an issue as quickly as possible, we become inclined to overlook the importance of reflection. Without reflecting to find out how we got to the point where we ended up, we are destined to repeat mistakes. I feel that if we do a thorough root cause analysis of the situation we can save ourselves a lot of unnecessary anguish down the road.
