Jerry H. Ting is a full merit-based scholarship recipient at the University of Southern California where he is studying political science, entrepreneurship, and public relations as an USC Annenberg Scholar. Ting was nominated by USC to represent the university in the national Truman Scholarship competition for his research on developing international treaties to level the economic playing field between the United States and emerging economies.|Ting is the Chairman of the Trojan Scholar Society, the largest student organization at USC that represents the top tenth of the undergraduate student population. Ting is also a Communication Research Scholar with the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy, examining the effects of emotions on effective communication.|As a pre-law student, Ting interned at the Supreme Court of the United States during the weeks leading up to the landmark cases on gay marriage, the Voting Rights Act, and affirmative action. Ting was also elected as the vice president of the USC chapter of the international pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, where he developed a library of resources and a comprehensive leadership program.|As a writer and communications consultant, Ting was an associate news editor with 24/7 digital news source Neon Tommy, concentrating specifically as a political analyst. Ting found his interest in politics after working as an assistant field organizer for the 2011 special elections for Janice Hahn to replace the congressional seat vacated by Jane Harman. Ting subsequently interned at Capitol Media Partners, an international communications consulting firm in Los Angeles. Prior to working in national politics, he had also worked in local government at the City of Fremont as a city-planning intern.|Additionally, Ting works as a freelance photographer and designer. Ting's photography experience include photographing for USC's Football Team and photojournalism projects in 9 different countries.
