Founded as the Baroness Erlanger Hospital in 1889 in Chattanooga, Erlanger Health System (EHS) operates 643 staffed inpatient beds at five principal campuses; the University Hospital, Children's Hospital at Erlanger, Erlanger North Hospital (Erlanger North), Erlanger East Hospital (Erlanger East), and Erlanger Bledsoe Hospital, located in Pikeville, Tenn. EHS provides Level 1 trauma services, Level IV NICU services, and is affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine as the region's only academic teaching hospital. EHS serves the four-state region of eastern Tennessee, northeastern Alabama, northwestern North Carolina and northwestern Georgia. EHS recently entered into a clinical affiliation with Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is a member of the Vanderbilt Health Affiliation Network. Total revenues were $803 million in fiscal 2016 (year-ended June 30).

Kevin M. Spiegel, FACHE, is president and CEO of Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Erlanger, which is the ninth largest public health system in the United States, is an academic health system affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.In his time with the health system, Kevin has engineered dramatic, impactful change, leading to the best overall performance in Erlanger’s history. This includes three consecutive years of enhancing net patient revenue by 15 percent along with dramatic market share growth. Revenue growth paired with cost reductions have solidified the system’s bond rating and allowed Erlanger to move forward with major expansions, including a new lifestyle-oriented community hospital and a new children’s hospital. Kevin’s leadership is influenced by personal passions for patient care and education. Trained as an EMT early in his career, he is the first pre-hospital care provider to ever rise to leadership at Erlanger — the only Level 1 adult & pediatric trauma center in southeastern Tennessee.Along with his role at Erlanger, Kevin is an assistant professor for the UT College of Medicine and Tennessee Regent for the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also serves on the boards of directors of the Tennessee Hospital Association and QSource, a not-for-profit healthcare quality improvement organization.
