Vice President of Sales and Client Strategy
Derse is a complete face-to-face marketing agency with a smarter approach to building client sales and managing their trade show, marketing environment and event programs.
I'm an ambitious yet pragmatic marketer motivated by intrepreneurial challenges. With a track record of turning ideas into profitable business models, I thrive when I'm tasked with big, complex problems and armed with a motivated, hungry team to lead. I started as Director of Marketing at Derse in November of 2015 to do just that, as our team leads all company New Business Development response efforts, content and account-based marketing strategies to generate and advance leads to sales and internal communications. I'm also a proven public speaker, with keynote and panel moderating experience on topics such as business-to-business marketing management, social media and digital marketing change management. Speaking is also a way to use my passion for self-deprecating, some say even humorous, storytelling. Prior to Derse, I worked at Bader Rutter from 2008 to 2015. In founding the agency's social media offering in 2010, my role as social media strategist had me pitching new business and working to lead a team of content and monitoring specialists. I worked to position content as a long-term communications vehicle by ensuring it supported the overall marketing strategy. We did everything from train CEOs on what a hashtag is to gearing up global social communities for the long-haul. I started at Bader Rutter working in their public relations relations department for two years. Prior to joining Bader Rutter, I worked at Chicago-based Alpaytac. There I managed PR campaigns, their internship program and all SEM/SEO efforts. Before Alpaytac, I worked as an editorial assistant at Chicago B2B publisher Schofield Media where I helped editors use “the Google” and refill their coffee. I also spent time at Second City and i.O., which resulted in four seconds of face time in a bad Dennis Quaid movie. I held internships at Milwaukee’s 540 ESPN radio and Madison’s 100.5 Fox Sports radio. As you can see, Rick does not believe in writing in the third-person for LinkedIn profiles.
