I've been in sales in one way or another for most of my working life. My mother, who has a very successful career in sales for over 30 years as a Financial Planner CLU, ChFC has been telling me since I was a kid that I should be in sales. And, I have been whether it was going door to door "selling" lawn care and snow removal as a kid to retail sales for Bill's Army and Navy in my teens. My first "real" sales job was at 19 for a famous knife company where I learned the basics but I grew as I went along. This opportunity expanded again when pots and pans were added to the line up and my marketing skills evolved; selling not only family and friends but networking outside my comfort zone. During my 20's I mostly worked as a tree trimmer, Landscaper/greenhouse worker, and journeyman carpenter. But I did also work as a waiter for many years so I guess I didn't get too far away. Waitering was a tough job, probably even harder than cutting down 60 ft trees with a chainsaw in that a lot of people are hangry (hungry and angry) when they first get to a restaurant. But that helped me practice/learn patience and it helped me develop a thicker skin which is always a benefit in any sales job. In 2004 I started at Champion Plastics in telemarketing and loved it. I found out that the fear of cold calls is nothing and powerless after facing down hangry customers. (do you? no..ok next!) From there I was appointed the Trade show manager, which it turns out was basically like being a roadie, unloading boxes, setting up displays and ordering giveaways for the tables. But I also found out that I loved it. Every minute. Talking with the masses, putting my personality on display, meeting new people, and learning from those around me. In late 2005 I got the opportunity I was working for when I was offered a full time sales position. I've been doing this for over 10 years now and I am still learning and growing.
