I think everyone is cut out to be a professional in some type of career. Whether it's politics, finance, full-time mother or father, writer, or athlete -- we all have the ability to excel at a job, if we want to. Of course, "want to" are the operative words here. I knew I wanted to be in the communication field while in high school. I joined the school's newspaper staff and learned the intricacies of the business from my teacher and a journalist who occasionally visited the class. After graduation, I took it to a higher level by choosing communications as a major in college. I worked on two different school newspapers and also held a disc jockey position as a local radio station and eventually graduated. Now, after 30+ years since that first high school journalism class, my career in communication has led me through radio, newspapers, internal and external communication, corporate communication, education, economic development, and published author.
